This tragic outcome occurred with Mary Louise Cormier, who suffered a fatal cardiac arrest after taking Glenmark’s capsules.
Glenmark’s Recall of Dangerous Medication
In June 2024, Glenmark recalled tens of millions of potassium chloride extended-release capsules after admitting they did not meet the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) standards. The recall was issued due to a “reasonable probability” that the defective capsules could cause “serious adverse health consequences or death.” This recall highlighted Glenmark’s failure to ensure the safety and efficacy of their medication, which has put countless patients at risk.
In addition to this recall, Glenmark has also repeatedly been found to violate FDA safety and quality standards and has recalled as many as 100 million other defective drugs. (read more about the recall here)
